Stratford City wins right to host large casino

Westfield Stratford

Westfield’s Stratford City will host the UK’s first “large casino” after Newham Council chose the scheme over two rival bids.

The council’s licensing committee rejected proposals for sites at Silvertown Quays and Gallions Reach in favour of the Stratford plan.

Regeneration veteran out to promote East London at MIPIM

London Thames Gateway Development Corporation was represented at this year’s MIPIM conference by a veteran of the Cannes conference.

Deputy director of development at LTGDC, Mark Bradbury, who has more than 10 previous MIPIM visits under his belt, was helping to promote east London's offer to developers, investors and politicians from across the world.

Permission granted for new Leamouth community

Developer Ballymore has been given planning permission to create a new community on brownfield land on the Leamouth Peninsula.

Permission for the scheme, which will provide up to 185,000m sq of new floor space, including up to 1,700 new homes, was granted by London Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

East Magazine

A new magazine looking at the hottest investment opportunities in east London will be officially launched next week, at a special invitation-only event.

The magazine, East, will provide an engaging and contemporary look at the latest developments making up the region’s compelling offer.

Thames cable car clears final planning hurdle

Plans for a cable car across the River Thames, linking the O2 arena with the Excel exhibition centre have been given final approval.

The crossing will link the two Olympics venues, and should be completed by July 2012, according to London mayor Boris Johnson.

Olympic park granted unique E20 postcode

London’s Olympic Park has been given its own unique postcode - E20 - by the Royal Mail.

The new postcode will cover the five neighbourhoods that the Olympic Park Legacy is planning to create after the 2012 Games.

Olympic chair rules out Leyton Orient move

Olympic bosses this week ruled out the possibility of Leyton Orient Football Club moving to a new home in London’s Olympic Park.

Orient chairman Barry Hearn is said to favour a move to the 2012 hockey stadium at Eton Manor.
