Homes plan approved for former police station

Medway Council has approved plans for a new 45-home residential development on the site of the former police station in Rochester.
The eyesore station was demolished following the construction of new headquarters for Medway police at Chatham Maritime.
Developer Jones Homes was given the go ahead for its proposals at a meeting of the council’s planning committee last week.

Housing association announces homes investment

Medway social landlord MHS Homes has announced that it will invest more than £50 million in new homes in the area.
The housing association said that the money would help deliver more than 300 new homes over the next four years.
These will be available to rent or to buy and also under shared ownership schemes, according to Ashley Hook, chief executive of MHS Homes.

Persimmon Homes seeks more Strood sites

Persimmon Homes has marked its Medway Gate scheme in Strood as a top-performer and is seeking new sites in the area.
"This is probably our fastest-selling site in Kent," said sales director Julia Price.
The developer has six schemes in the county, she said.

University of Greenwich helps develop bomb disposal robot

The University of Greenwich at Medway has joined forces with a Kent company to design and build a bomb disposal robot which will be sold to EU armed forces.
The vehicle can be controlled by a wireless device from a distance of several hundred metres and climb stairs and even open doors.
More lightweight than traditional bomb disposal units, it has cameras on board, as well as nuclear, biological and chemical weapon sensors.

Final phase of work starts on Chatham bus station

The final phase of work has started on the new Chatham Waterfront bus station.
Road layout changes and six new bus stops on Waterfront Way are being carried out, along with work to resurface The Brook.

Medway leader dismisses Isle of Grain airport proposal

Medway Council leader Rodney Chambers has ridiculed proposals for a new airport on the Isle of Grain which were drawn up by architect Norman Foster.
The plans are aimed at allowing London to compete with airports in Europe and the Middle East.
But Chambers said that the proposal was the “daftest in a long list of pie in the sky schemes that have been put forward”.
