Minister for housing Kit Malthouse visited Medway's flagship £400 million regeneration scheme in July.
The joint venture (JV) partnership between house builder Countryside and housing provider Hyde Group, Rochester Riverside is set to provide 1,400 new homes over 12 years on brownfield land and includes provision for first-time buyers and families.
Built across 20 hectares, the development will include a new hotel, 1,200sq m of commercial space, a primary school and nursery and a 2.5km public riverside walkway, set to open up the Medway riverside for the first time, while creating new jobs in the area.
Malthouse said Rochester Riverside is a really fantastic example of a development that will provide thousands of homes, of which 25% are affordable and were a great design.
Tom Shaw, operations director at the Hyde Group added: "Rochester Riverside is a fantastic example of partnership working in action, delivering 1,400 new homes for Medway. Our 50/50 JV with Countryside Properties is transforming this former brownfield site at pace, delivering homes, jobs and regeneration of a prime site."
The development is expected to complete in late 2027.
