Major industry conference has the WOW factor

Wed 17 October 2018, 5:14 pm

On 22 November, local authorities, businesses, developers and other stakeholders will travel to Slough for the first ever WOW London, the growth conference for west London and the Thames Valley.

The WOW London Conference will provide a chance to debate and analyse key development and growth opportunities in the region, such as the huge project to regenerate Old Oak Common, Heathrow's third runway, the opening of the Elizabeth Line, HS2 and other major infrastructure projects. It will enable local businesses and the wider development community to discover how they can engage and participate in driving growth forward.

A prestigeous line-up of industry speakers on the day includes:

- Lucy Owen, the new interim executive director of development, enterprise and environment, Greater London Authority
- Tom Venner, commercial development director, HS2
- Caroline Low, director of Heathrow expansion, Department for Transport
- Michael Mulhern, CEO, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation
- Tony Clements, executive director, regeneration and housing, Ealing Council
- Tan Dhesi, MP for Slough and co-chair of the Western rail link to Heathrow

In the afternoon, delegates will attend in-depth workshops to learn more about specific topics. Workshop hosts include Heathrow Airport and construction, services and property group Kier. The day will end with a panel discussion, exclusively featuring council leaders from the region, including: Julian Bell, leader of the London Borough of Ealing; Steve Curran, leader of the London Borough of Hounslow; and James Swindlehurst, leader of Slough Council.

The chair for the event will be Brendon Walsh, consultant and previously director of regeneration at the London Borough of Hounslow. He said: "Over the years, I have been fortunate to have worked closely with [event organiser] 3Fox International in two senior public sector roles. You could not ask for a more professional and focused team to deliver a unique event for West London and the Thames Valley. It has never been done before, but they are the team to do it."

The conference will be attended by more than 150 senior representatives from local authorities, businesses and major developers such as Berkeley Homes, Galliard Homes and Bouygues.

Curran said: "The WOW London conference is the first ever growth conference for West London and the Thames Valley, and I will be attending to showcase the leading role the London Borough of Hounslow is playing in the region. I urge everyone from both the public and private sector to come to the event and contribute to the discussion."
